Let's learn
more about Buddhism
Nepali Version
Dalai Lama's advise for
millennium.
Follow the three Rs: Respect for self, respect for others and responsibility
for all your actions. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it. Spend some time alone every day. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time. A loving atmosphere in your
home is the foundation for your life. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality. Be gentle with the earth. Once a year, go some place
you've never been before. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

"If you do not know how to relax and be
satisfied with what you have, if you do not know how to appreciate the
natural beauty of your environment, if you do now know how to be simple,
then even if you were to possess all the money in the world you would
still be miserable."
Brutally beaten Lama's spirit unbroken
KATHMANDU, Feb 15 - Three weeks have elapsed since he was admitted to
Shreer Memorial Hospital in Banepa.
Vice-president of ANNFSU Kavre district, Hira Man Lama, had no idea security forces could go to that extent in brutality. It was Jan 26, the day a banda was called by the seven-party alliance to protest the controversial municipal elections, and Lama and his friends were busy organizing a rally to make the banda a success. "We were planning to hold a demonstration when security personnel turned up all of a sudden and threaten to open fire if we ran away," says Lama, his face pale with illness. Lama and two of his friends were scared stiff and let the security personnel arrest them. We were dumped into a police van and they began to assault us with boots, batons and rifle butts, using all sorts of abusive language, says a wheel chair-bound Lama. "You are a Maoist. Do you know that we have shot dead so many Maoists and we are going to kill you also?" Lama quoted the security personnel as telling them. We cried and pleaded innocence, but our crying only fell on deaf ears, says Lama in hospital. The security people kicked Lama and his friends out as soon as the police van ground to a halt in front of the police station in Banepa. The severe beating had already left one of Lama's ribs broken. "On sensing that he was severely injured, the police immediately took him to Dhudikhel Hospital, and when it was found that he had a broken rib, they took him to the district police office and released him in the evening," said Deepak Gautam, one of Lama's friends, who came to Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, along with Lama for an MRI test. The broken rib also caused wounds in the back which filled with pus. Doctors at the hospital operated to remove it. Doctors will decide when he is to be discharged after going through the MRI report, which will be out three days later. When asked if he was going to abandon politics following the incident, he became suddenly excited and said "Not at all, rather the incident has further inspired me to fight for democracy. After all, this is why we need democracy." Sonam Losar at New York

MIND PRECEDES ALL MENTAL STATES. Mind is their chief; they are all mind-wrought. If with an impure mind a person speaks or acts, suffering follows him like the wheel that follows the foot of the ox. MIND PRECEDES ALL MENTAL STATES. Mind is their chief; they are all mind-wrought. If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts, happiness follows him like his never-departing shadow.
